Getting around the PG-13 rating by having a non-human looking character getting ripped apart seems to be a thing and it’s something I’ve thought about over the years. The Lord of the Rings movies had orcs getting beheaded all over the place, for instance. There was also X-Men: Days of Future Past where mutants like Colossus and Ice Man got torn apart as well and it seemed it got away with a PG-13 rating because they were CGI characters getting killed.
