Part of the problem of Venom fighting his evil(er) version of himself is that we all knew Carnage was coming up so why not wait for that? With Drake, I think they had a good chance to use the Jury. Maybe Drake could have had some powered suits that were initially designed for space exploration. With the symbiotes killing the astronauts, maybe some of Drakes guys, who are former military, decided to avenge them by donning the armors and going after him with Drake going along with the plan to study Venom or whatever. It wouldn’t need much screen time and works within the plot.

That would have been better! Maybe they weren’t sure they were actually going to get the Carnage sequel and blew their load regardless.
