SWO Draft: Best 90’s Video Games

Welcome to the SWO Draft for May 2021!

Historically, a lot of our drafts have been movie and television based. We’ve done the Best Movie Sequels (and Worst Movie Sequels), Best TV Shows of the Last Decade… a lot of stuff like that. There are a lot of different directions to go in the realm of movies and TV, and that’s such an easy fallback.

But what we haven’t done nearly enough of has been video games!

I’m not really sure why not; they just haven’t come up a lot in our previous draft discussions. I’m sure the folks I have drafted with like games… they must have just preferred watchable media.

Well no worries, because we are breaking the drought today!

I partnered with three other fantastic podcasts–On Second Watch, Nerd In Texas, and It Goes Down In The PM–and we decided we would pop the video game cherry. We thought about drafting by game genre or particular console, but ultimately, we ended up on a decade: The 1990’s.

The 1990’s was such a classic era for gaming. Video games were truly emerging from the fringe of society in the 80’s, and the 90’s is where they finally started becoming ubiquitous. The stigma around them gave way as games proved they could be for anyone.

So what a great place to start!

Before we get started, I can’t thank my partners-in-drafting enough this month. They were terrific to work with! Please take the time to visit their sites and check them out; I promise you won’t be disappointed!
