We are back to getting through Stew’s many volumes of a manga series he started buying, but stopped reading way too long ago: Komi Can’t Communicate! In volume one, we started meeting the core cast of characters, including the titular Komi, who has such direly extreme social anxiety that she can not speak in front of others. But she can write! Or even make short … Continue reading Stew’s Series Reviews: Komi Can’t Communicate Volume 2
Is Ollie’s a national chain, or is it somewhat local? Do you know what Ollie’s is? It’s terrific. They have the cheapest random assortment of stuff in the world. It’s an occasional boon for finding discontinued Pop-Tarts for the Pop-Tart Quest. But beyond that, they just have so much great stuff. Including discounted comic books sometimes! I went out to Ollie’s last night, and they had … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: JSA – Mixed Signals
I’ve been a fan of Leah Williams ever since her X-Tremists run a few years ago. That was a five issue mini-series during the X-Books’ “Age Of X-Man” storyline where Nate Grey had reshaped reality in his image. It saw a group of mutants working as a police force to arrest other mutants, and it gave us the love story I never knew I needed: … Continue reading X-Terminators 2022 Review
This isn’t the first time I’ve talked about Komi Can’t Communicate here at SWO Productions, but along the way, I just fell off reading the series. I’ve continued BUYING the books, but I haven’t been reading them. I’ve been letting them accrue space on my manga shelves as I waited for… the right time, I guess? Most of 2022 was NOT the right time. I … Continue reading Stew’s [Series] Reviews: Komi Can’t Communicate Volume 1
I tend to spend this little opening blurb segment talking a lot about me. What’s been going on, what else I have been reading, sometimes meandering nonsense about my cats. Whatever. You probably rightfully skip it. You know what we don’t do here often enough? Talk about you. So… how are you? Let me know down in the comments! What are you reading these days? … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: Daredevil – Love & War
And we are back! For the last time! Wow, this took some work to get here, but let’s finish the list. Reminder: This is based on a list Wizard Magazine published in 2006 ranking their top 100 single issue comic stories of the previous 27 years or so (1979-2006). I’ve gone from 100 to 6 (you can see the list history [LISTORY!] by clicking the … Continue reading The Top 100 Comics Of A Lifetime, #5-1
And we are back! Let’s read some allegedly great comics! From Wizard’s 2006 list of the Top 100 Single Issues of all time! #10. Daredevil #191 In the wake of Bullseye murdering Elektra and being left paralyzed by Daredevil, ol’ Hornhead visits his enemy in the hospital… for a game of Russian Roulette. As he takes turns aiming and clicking the gun between them, Daredevil … Continue reading The Top 100 Comics Of A Lifetime, #10-6
My wife was upset at me when I let it slip that I recently played the final season of TellTale Games’ The Walking Dead without her. She has never been much of a gamer herself, but she really enjoyed the character and story driven narrative of that series as it followed a young girl named Clementine through the zombie apocalypse. As the first three seasons … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: Clementine
Several weeks ago, I had the pleasure of getting to review a gem of an independent comic book called POCUS HOCUS. Well today we are looking at another title by the same creative team (Dunford, Radford, Balondo, etc): GRANDMA CHAINSAW! As you can tell by reading the previously linked article, I dug Pocus Hocus and the world it was building. There is a great deal … Continue reading Stew’s [Quick] Reviews: Grandma Chainsaw
And we are back! Let’s read some allegedly great comics! From Wizard’s 2006 list of the Top 100 Single Issues of all time! #15. Uncanny X-Men #159 My buddies over at The Multiverse Of Badness podcast covered this issue once for their show! Take a listen. I definitely seem to have dug this issue more than they did. Sorry guys! It’s the X-Men’s first (but … Continue reading The Top 100 Comics Of A Lifetime, #15-11
I’ve always said my favorite era across all comics is the Post-Crisis era of DC. That’s… not really a good name for it anymore. DC used to have two eras: Pre-Crisis (the stuff that happened prior to Crisis On Infinite Earths) and Post-Crisis (guess what that meant). Then there was Flashpoint and the New 52. Then there was Rebirth. And Doomsday Clock may have been … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: Dark Crisis – Young Justice
And we are back! Let’s read some allegedly great comics! #20. Planetary #13 I’ve read Planetary but one time, a few years ago, and all at once beginning to end. It works better that way, I think. As I made my way back through issue 13 here, I found myself wanting to revisit the story the series told in its completion. That said, Warren Ellis … Continue reading The Top 100 Comics Of A Lifetime, #20-16
My wife and I had an extremely romantic date night at Dave & Buster’s tonight. Weird dinner experience where our waiter actively tried to dissuade us from BOTH meals we ordered. I asked for some Kobe meatball dinner they had, and he went into a story about how his Italian grandmother makes meatballs, and the restaurant’s aren’t as good as hers, and am I SURE … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: Green Lantern – Kyle Rayner
I just bought hockey tickets! I haven’t been to a game a long time; several years at this point, actually. I went through a stretch in the mid-2000’s where I made it to at least one Pittsburgh Penguins game per year, but it’s been a solid decade since I have gone. Every time I have been to the PPG Arena since it has opened, it’s … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: Booster Gold
I’ve previously made my love of Savage Dragon pretty well known when I reviewed that title, but that was just one of the many books thrust out into the world when Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Erik Larsen, Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvestri, Jim Valentino, and Whilce Portacio launched Image Comics. I’ll be honest… I really dug the whole idea of Image and what they were doing, … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: CyberForce – Rebirth
