1994: The Duocracy So at this point, Yokozuna had been enjoying a reign of heel terror over WWF for more than half a year. Lex Luger had been turned into an American Bus-Ridin’ Icon to challenge him, but that failed. WWF was still trying to find the man who could rescue the belt from Yokozuna and be the guiding light of the New Era… The … Continue reading Ranking The Rumbles: 1994
1993: The Monster It’s 1993, and WWF was finally starting to go through a changing of the guard. Also of minor note? This was the first Royal Rumble I watched as a true, watch-every-week wrestling fan. At the time of this match, Bret Hart was the face of the company as the WWF World Champion, ushering in what would come to be called “The New … Continue reading Ranking The Rumbles: 1993

Deadly Upgrades part 2 Ryan Bennings studied the lump of metal under a series of lenses and sensors in the ship’s lab. As the mass absorbed anything it came into contact with, it was held aloft in a small forcefield where it couldn’t touch anything solid. Astra Machina stood nearby for further analysis. “Whatever it is, it attaches itself to solid matter and transfers it … Continue reading AP Productions: The Commission #7
1992: The Fairness to Flair Here we arrive at the first truly “good” Rumble (Hulk Hogan vs Bushwhacker Luke notwithstanding), and it’s an absolute gem of a classic, this one. Late 1991 saw shenanigans-marred title matches between Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker result in Jack Tunney holding the title in abeyance. The result of that decision? Royal Rumble 1992… The Participants1. The British Bulldog2. Ted … Continue reading Ranking The Rumbles: 1992
1991: The 29 Men Here we are in 1991, where Hulkamania was still running wild through the WWF landscape. At this point, the Rumble was still in its formative years and winning was its own reward. Luckily, we are just one year away from that changing… Participants1. Bret Hart (man, he drew for shit in these early years)2. Dino Bravo3. Greg Valentine4. Paul Roma (Without … Continue reading Ranking The Rumbles: 1991
It’s the 90’s! The Royal Rumble is entering the decade of flannel everything, baggy pants, and everything from soda pop to professional wrestling trying to be extreme. With two Rumbles down, WWF was really finding their footing with their annual elimination match. But after the first two, something was missing. What could it have been… 1990: The Hogan Participants 1. Ted Dibiase (given #1 as … Continue reading Ranking The Rumbles: 1990
Welcome back to Ranking The Rumbles! This time we’re looking at 1989, the year of… the fall of the Berlin Wall, if I recall correctly. And Wikipedia tells me the destruction of the Berlin Wall took place the day after my ninth birthday, so… you’re welcome. Let’s get right to it where we discuss the first “modern” Rumble, the 1989 iteration! 1989: The Set-Up The … Continue reading Ranking The Rumbles: 1989
Deadly Upgrades part 1 In Washington DC, a guard stood at attention in front of a downed U’ntari Commander Class vessel which had been taken out by Alysa Saraki and the Upstarts during the Resurgence. The ship’s crash took out the bridge on the Potomac River and the tip of the Washington Monument and it now lay across most of the park. There was a … Continue reading AP Productions: The Commission #6
I love the Royal Rumble; it’s the best. The nice thing about WWE is that no matter how bad the product is at any given moment in time, I always know there will be one match every year for which I will get super excited. Money In The Bank is fun. Oh, and I dig The Elimination Chamber, too. But the Rumble has the most … Continue reading Ranking The Rumbles: 1988

Does Survivor Series start at 6pm EST tonight? That’s weird. Glad I did not miss any of it when I decided to see, at 5:30pm, when the Pre-Show was on. What was I doing leading up to Survivor Series, you ask? Trying not to cry my eyes out as I watched The Wild Robot. What a powerful movie! It’s definitely near the top of the … Continue reading Survivor Series Wargames 2024 Review
Jackpot!–note the exclamation point–is the new Paul Feig movie that debuted recently on Amazon Prime. It tells the story of Katie Kim (Awkwafina), a one-time child actress who is returning to Los Angeles after the death of her mother. Her mom and she loved Hollywood and watching movies together, so to honor her, Katie is back to trying to make it as an actress. Unfortunately, … Continue reading Jackpot! Review
It’s not very often I watch a movie that is a hair shy of being one hundred years old, but here we are, reviewing Charlie Chaplin’s 1925 classic, The Gold Rush. I’m pretty bad at watching films that pre-date, say, the 1980’s, honestly, but I’m trying to get better at it. Letterboxd helps because it gives me the ability to keep track of what I … Continue reading The Gold Rush Review
Bastard Son of Nelson Creed part 8 (finale) The people of Widow Springs woke up, ate breakfast, sent their children off to school and went about their daily chores. Around lunchtime, they headed to the Town Tavern as if running an errand. They never spoke a word to each other. All were in silent agreement and most of them never uttered a word of it … Continue reading AP Productions: Winghaven #29
