Jab’s Disney Reviews: Disney’s Collection of Shorts

Here’s something a little bit different- these reviews will more or less sum up and review the “Collections of Shorts” era of Disney features. The Story: Falling fortunes and World War II put a lot of studios in dire financial straights, and Disney was no exception. Therefore, some cost-cutting measures were taken with the next handful of pictures, starting with Saludos Amigos. These are the World … Continue reading Jab’s Disney Reviews: Disney’s Collection of Shorts

Jab Reviews: Sailor Moon R (60-62)

SAILOR MOON R- PART TWO Sailor Moon R is split into two separate bits, the first one a mini-arc I just reviewed, meant largely as “Filler” to move things along while they waited for Rumiko Takahashi to write more of the manga. The fact that the enemy used “Draining Energy” as their core concept was a big sign of that, as that’s the point of … Continue reading Jab Reviews: Sailor Moon R (60-62)

Top Ten: Movie Franchises

Franchises. No, not… I mean, MOVIE franchises. Why make one good movie when you can make somewhere between three and a hundred movies of varying quality, right? Hollywood is ON BOARD with this notion. If a movie is released to more than 2000 theaters nationwide, you can almost bet someone behind it all envisions it becoming a sprawling film empire. As someone who grew up … Continue reading Top Ten: Movie Franchises

Thirteen The Fridayth: Part 3!

In case the title isn’t tipping you off, we’ve been here before. Twice, even! Nary a Friday the 13th passes without my ranting about horror flicks. It’s mostly a horror stream of consciousness, frankly. I never go into these articles with a plan. Planning is for people that have something important to say! So what’s not important right now…? I was recently at some very dear friends’ going … Continue reading Thirteen The Fridayth: Part 3!

Jab’s Disney Reviews: Dumbo and Bambi

DUMBO (1941) Dumbo came on the heels of a couple of financial failures (Pinocchio & Fantasia), and so was one of the first Disney movies made “on the cheap”. However, this cheapness in animation allowed the directors to focus on acting rather than showing off fancy backgrounds, and so we got one of the more personable tales. And this one’s a doozy of an iconic film- is there any more … Continue reading Jab’s Disney Reviews: Dumbo and Bambi

Jab’s Disney Reviews: Fantasia

FANTASIA (1940) One of Walt’s big “Doing It For The Art” pictures, Fantasia was high concept even for the new art form of Animated Film (like, this is the THIRD Disney feature). Walt REALLY wanted to add some culture to the genre, and so did a series of shorts based around pieces of classical music- stuff so elaborate it needed entirely new sound systems placed into theaters. … Continue reading Jab’s Disney Reviews: Fantasia

Jab Reviews: Sailor Moon R (52-59)

Sailor Moon R continues with the second half of “Part One”, continuing the “Filler Arc” High School students An & Ail are actually SPACE ALIENS, and they’re out to gather human energy for the “Makai Tree” that is their home. However, despite being lovers, they are drawn to humans Usagi & Mamoru, who are also Sailor Moon and… NOT Tuxedo Mask. Because Mamoru still doesn’t … Continue reading Jab Reviews: Sailor Moon R (52-59)

Thirteen The Fridayth: Part 2

Wait a minute… This feels familiar. (Also, the longer I look at the word (“word”) “Fridayth”, the more I think it looks like the name of a Norse deity. Just throw a misplaced J in there, and we are good to go. Frijdayth! The dawn of our Norn blessings!) Anyway, remember back in October when we ranked our best candies in honor of Halloween? Originally, I wanted that … Continue reading Thirteen The Fridayth: Part 2

Stew’s Reviews: Deadpool by Daniel Way

You know, it’s been a few weeks since I reviewed something I really, really enjoyed and could unabashedly recommend without hesitation. We’ve been bopping around the 4-7 spectrum for a while on these ratings, and I feel that you deserve a better class of comic book.
