Marvel’s Civil War may have been a piece of junk, but I think a lot of the stories and concepts that sprung from it were quite strong, and full of potential. The Initiative was a great little book that featured the new status quo: Superhumans were forced to undergo military training and could only perform “heroics” as agents of the government. And they played both … Continue reading Jab’s Deep Dives: The Avengers Initiative
We’re winding down to the last few entries in this series. At this point in history, it seemed the Marvel Netflix showrunners were certain there would be future seasons, as evident by the number of cliffhangers in Phase Two. In reality, Marvel was removing itself from Netflix so it could stream more MCU-centric shows on Disney+ in the future. During this time, Netflix was trying … Continue reading Netflix Marvel Retrospective – Iron Fist Season 2
THE IMMORTAL IRON FIST: Now here was a fun, interesting little comic book series. Several years ago, Ed Brubaker & Matt Fraction came out with a revamp of the legend of Danny Rand, a martial arts hero created in the 1970s. Despite an initial push centered around “Marvel Premiere” (a book set up around introducing new concepts after the dearth of big-name new characters by … Continue reading Jab’s deep Dives: The Immortal Iron Fist
The last time we came together to discuss some of the better non-standard appearances of our favorite comic book characters, I mentioned that the X-Men alone could be at least one article. Never let it be said that I don’t sometimes fulfill my promises, because here we are with an X-Men Special Edition of Comics’ Best Alternate Looks! I may have done Wolverine and Jean Grey in … Continue reading Comics’ Best Alternate Looks: X-Men Edition
Welcome back to my retrospective. We are now entering what I like to call “Phase Two” of the Marvel shows on Netflix. It’s basically the final seasons of all the shows. This phase also didn’t quite have the critical acclaim as the others, sadly. The hype was gone, there had been quite a few bumps in the road, and some of the later seasons didn’t … Continue reading Netflix Marvel Retrospective – Jessica Jones Season 2
We’re on our last entry. 2021 was a great ride in terms of the first batch of MCU shows on Disney+. Just before Christmas, we were given the appropriately holiday-themed show, Hawkeye. This was the show I was most looking forward to. First of all, the show was supposed to be following the Matt Fraction/David Aja Hawkeye series and while I hadn’t read it, I … Continue reading MCU Disney+ Year In Review – Hawkeye
As a young lad, there were comics I would buy on a regular basis and comics I would get on a whim or if something caught my eye. The one comic I would get on a semi-regular basis was What If. As the name implies, it presented familiar comic stories and explored the possibility of things turning out in a completely different way. Often, it … Continue reading MCU Disney+ Year In Review – What If…?
Man, Pop-Tarts never misses an opportunity to just print a picture on a Tart and call it new. Fun fact, the #PTQ skipped entirely because they are just Cherry Pop-Tarts with a picture of some kind of weird horse/narwhal hybrid on them. I actually thought those were My Little Pony branded Tarts, but… I guess they aren’t? They are just Generic Cartoon Unicorn. Kinda look … Continue reading Pop-Tart Quest: Spider-Man
When Disney+ announced they would have MCU series on their platform, they did so by revealing the first three shows: Wandavision, Falcon & Winter Soldier, and Loki. They released a teaser shortly after that. If you notice, the only thing they had for Loki was a logo and a short clip with him looking into the camera and saying “I’m gonna burn this place to … Continue reading MCU Disney+ Year In Review – Loki
Last year, Disney+ released the first crop of MCU shows on its site and the initial plan was that Falcon and Winter Soldier would be first. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this show had to stop filming, so in January of 2021, Wandavision was released instead. Falcon and the Winter Soldier would subsequently drop in September. While Wandavision was far removed from your typical superhero … Continue reading MCU Disney+ Year In Review – Falcon & Winter Soldier
It’s a new year and we can all agree 2021 pretty much sucked. Know what else sucked? 2020. The sucktitude of these two years was mostly due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has affected health, business, and even entertainment. As you are all aware, the pandemic hit early in 2020, which resulted in no new MCU properties being released that year. MCU movies were … Continue reading MCU Disney+ Year In Review – Wandavision
When you watch a movie, is the acting more important than the script? It’s weird how that is never really a consideration, right? Like nobody ever postulates “Would you rather watch a movie with Oscar caliber performances of a bad story? Or wooden, unfeeling actors portraying a brilliant story concept?” And yet, it’s something comic fans have always debated. If you had two books to … Continue reading Top Ten: Favorite Comic Writers
As I write this, my cat is chewing on the HDMI cable to the television. I mean… I don’t LET him. I stomp and yell at him, and he stops for a second and looks at me, but he just goes right back to it once I stop glaring at him. It’s a really weird behavior, as he is almost three years old, I had … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: X-23 – Chaos Theory
With the four major Marvel shows having a season or two under their belts and the Defenders miniseries event premiering, Netflix and Marvel TV took a detour. The Punisher wasn’t initially meant to have a show. Marvel had just gotten the live action rights for Frank Castle back and since Daredevil had his own gritty, ultra-violent show, it made sense to bring in the Punisher. … Continue reading Netflix Marvel Retrospective – Punisher Season 1
Best Buy needs to be more clear about their sales. I was in the market to purchase a new microphone for our show (AND YES, this intro shows how far in advance I write these articles, because I have had the new microphone since about June 2018! – Stew), and I was perusing Best Buy. They had a USB microphone with good reviews on sale … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man – Coming Home
