Yes, DEATHBLOW. I’m less surprised by the name and more surprised they didn’t come up with it elsewhere- it’s possibly the most “Iron Age” name in a line that includes Warblade, Ripclaw, and Ballistic. The comic itself is an attempt by Jim Lee to ape Frank Miller, and it’s curious and bold on that attempt- as Lee is about 100 times as skilled as most … Continue reading Jab’s Image Comics Deep Dive: Deathblow, Gen 13
Okay. Okay, okay. I am more calm than I was when I wrote that review *checks clock* 15 minutes ago. Let’s look at this more rationally and critically. Guys, this movie is truly amazing. Just… I’m still floored. I want to turn around and go watch it again. Okay, it turns out I am really bad at objectivity. I am also saying “Okay” a LOT. … Continue reading Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings Review
Welcome back to Stew’s Reviews! Devotees will know that it was only a few weeks ago that we were talking Green Lanterns (The War of the Green Lanterns, specifically), and fate has steered us back towards the chartreuse champion as we dig into a six issue miniseries for the second week in a row (this one ends, though, don’t worry!), DC’s The Brave and the Bold. No … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: The Brave & The Bold

Wait, don’t I usually do two of these in a month? I do; this is usually split up into first half / back half so it doesn’t get too wordy. But August was a pretty slow month in many regards, so by the time mid-August appeared and I had done very little, I figured I’d just package the whole thing together for the end of … Continue reading Entertainment Rex: August 2021

NO PICTURESQUE FOOD THIS WEEK; WE’RE BACK TO POP-TARTS THAT DO NOT DOUBLE AS FINE ART. THIS IS… POP-TART QUEST! More smooshing! Pop-Tarts loves to release things thematically nowadays; they do very few solo releases that I can remember in recent months. The Orange Crush and Root Beer flavors came in tandem, and so did these Splitz (also: the two next flavors on the list … Continue reading Pop-Tart Quest: Splitz Part 2
The Good Stuff In August of 2020, the Marvel TV show Agents of SHIELD aired its 136th and final episode after seven seasons with little fanfare. While TV shows come and go and seven seasons is quite an achievement, this particular show is very interesting. I still remember seeing a trailer for the pilot episode in a movie theater, I remember #ItsAllConnected being slapped on … Continue reading Agents of SHIELD Retrospect – Part 1
As it turns out, I am something of A Pokemon fan. I’m not a hardcore gamer by any stretch of the imagination. Video games are a part-time pastime for me, and if they get too convoluted or difficult, my interest wanes rapidly. That said, the amount of time I have put into Pokemon across its many formats has to be ungodly. I have played a lot of Madden. … Continue reading Top Ten: Generation One Pokemon
Is this the last NXT Takeover event? Is this the last RELEVANT NXT Takeover event? Is all the talk of an NXT makeover much ado about nothing? They agreement with Full Sail is over. Everyone’s favorite WWE exec, Nick Khan, has promised changes (and has also been hacking away at NXT’s lower and midcard rosters as if they were unsavory weeds). I guess we will … Continue reading NXT Takeover 36 Review
Trying something new tonight, so you’ll have to let me know what you think! I’ll be more-or-less LIVE REVIEWING SummerSlam tonight. That means I’ll be publishing this article right about when SummerSlam airs, and then updating it regularly throughout the show. Clearly a stolen idea from the Live Coverage articles over at 411Mania, but they love me there, so they’ll allow it (I hope!). I’m … Continue reading SummerSlam 2021 Review
SAILOR MOON R- THE MOVIE:Yes, they made three movies for the Sailor Moon franchise. The animation is of course glorious compared to anything you’d see in the cartoon, with bodies having both shading AND highlights, and the frame-rate going up a bit, too, with lots of glamorous shots and better posing than the “straight-on” stuff from a more mundane TV episode. The three middle seasons, Sailor Moon R, S and SuperS, … Continue reading Jab’s Reviews: Sailor Moon R – The Movie
Here’s the thing about me… I am not much of a gamer. I LIKE video games; I PLAY video games damn frequently. But it’s more that I’m not good at games, and because of that, I tire of individual titles easily. I also have a bad penchant for buying games and either NEVER playing them or playing them for about two hours and never touching … Continue reading Top Ten: Video Games of the 2010’s
For more on Jim Lee’s WildCATS, click HERE! HAHAHAHAHAHA- Jesus! Lookit this guy! I mean, Rob Liefeld was a PARTNER of Jim Lee’s at this time! In any case, Pike is Half-Kherubim like most … Continue reading Jab’s Image Deep Dive: WildCATS continued!
I’m not… I’m not a Marvel fanboy, as it were. Admittedly, I own more Marvel comics than anything else. I have more access to Marvel comics than anything else. But I am not a card-carryin’, DC-hatin’, Marvel fanboy. So you can imagine, after the first four weeks of the revised “Stew’s Reviews” and realizing I had done two Marvel books, two non-Big-Two books, and zero DC … Continue reading Stew’s Reviews: 52
